The agreement is a victory for the banana industry.
The understanding between parties declares that the governor has recognized the importance of Tadeco and the workers working peacefully.
The resolution provides a glimpse that Gob Jubahib is now being briefed and educated about the real effects of Fusarium Wilt. He is now fully supportive of the moves of Tadeco to safeguard the plantation from Panama Disease through the biosecurity facilities. He is now eager to fully implement biosecurity protocols, vehicles passing thru tire dips and people stepping on foot baths.
The meeting of minds proves that negotiations, for the benefit of the majority, at times, provide preferable solutions to conflicts.
Hopefully and prayerfully, Gob Jubahib will now be true to his words after all the hullabaloo.
However, Gob Jubahib's pronouncement that the roads are now open and no gatepasses are required anymore may be face-saving words. The roads in question were actually open to the public and no gatepasses were required since before, as long as the bio-security protocols are followed. It is the few people in Tanglaw, Balagunan and Bobongon - who do not want to pass thru the tire dips and foot bath and do not want to follow biosecurity protocols - who reported to him that the roads are closed and that gatepasses are required. And using MC 2019-121 and some motives, he grabbed the information and made his reckless actions of trying to demolish the biosecurity facilities.
But for us, in Tadeco, it doesn't matter what words are going out of his mouth for media and whatever purposes as long as his actions are for the banana industry and for the thousands of people who depended heavily on it. As to be expected from a public servant, action should speak louder than words.
But then, we remain to be vigilant as there are many evil ways to try to topple the mango tree that bears plenty and sweet fruits.
